Kick off two weeks of Montana fun in Three Forks and get your mountain riding legs under you by attending the 20th annual Red Rock Hounds Three Forks Hunt and Lynn Lloyd’s “Riding Safely to Hounds Cross Country” Foxhunting Clinic at Headwaters Ranch, home of Big Sky Hounds and the beautiful Headwaters Hops Cross Country Course. Enjoy top notch acclimation and instruction by Lynn, then participate in a meet across this very challenging Montana country with Red Rock Hounds, followed by a wild day of riding in the Hunter Poker Pace and the Wild West Shootout (yes, with guns). Lodging is at Headwaters Ranch which is the headquarters for the Three Forks leg and can be reserved at www.headwatersranchmt.com (check in the 3rd and out the 7th). Horses are available for lease, pens available for boarding.
RED LODGE, MONTANA | May 7th, 8th
As we make our way eastward across this gorgeous state, we’ll be staying in Red Lodge, gateway to Yellowstone Park via the beautiful Beartooth Highway. This quaint, historic, mountain town is nestled against the Beartooths, Montana’s highest mountain peaks and is a place of extraordinary beauty and Western-style hospitality. After a welcoming party, we’ll spend the next day riding this breathtaking country! Lodging and board TBD, horses will be available for lease.
MILES CITY, MONTANA
We are very excited to once again be hunting Miles City - Montana’s premiere Old West town – and this time we’re here for the WORLD FAMOUS MILES CITY BUCKING HORSE SALE! This legendary cowboy town is rolling out the red carpet for us again and entrenching us in their ranch world. It’s a behind the scenes look at real Montana ranching, rodeo, and Foxhunting Montana-Style. Spearheaded by our good friends Terry and Janet Haughian, we have been invited by a group of local stockgrowers and long-time ranching families to bring the sport and tradition of foxhunting to the real Wild West. Not only have they welcomed us to hunt their massive ranches, but also enjoy their community and rich heritage. When we’re not chasing coyotes, we’ll be branding cattle, horseback on a wagon train, riding the range, gathering cattle, and learning the cowboy tricks of the trade (like roping) while we sit around the campfire in the middle of The Big Open. We’ll ride into town afterward in time for the 68th Miles City Bucking Horse Sale, to parade hounds in the Main Street Parade, and where we have premiere seats and backstage passes for some of the best fun imaginable. We’ll arrive in Miles City on the 9th and depart the morning of the 20th. Horses are available for lease, as well as boarding. LODGING FOR MILES CITY BUCKING HORSE WEEK IS SOLD OUT YEARS IN ADVANCE, but we have a block of rooms set back at our favorite hotel in town (which just happens to be across the street from our favorite saloon).
